Phillies sign Lance Nix, what other moves could come?

The Philadelphia Phillies, looking to replace Raul Ibanez in left field, reportedly have signed Lance Nix to a two year contract.

Nix, a lefthander, will likely platoon with John Mayberry, Jr. in left field. Nix

Nix had a career high 324 at-bats for Washington in 124 games, with a .250 batting average, 16 home runs and 44 RBI.

If he sounds familiar, it is a game on June 1, when he hit a two-out sold home run off Roy Oswalt to provide the winning run and made a full-extension diving catch to rob Dom Brown of a sure base hit and two RBIs.

Mayberry, a right-handed bat, hit .273 in 296 at bats with 15 home runs and 49 RBI.

But as in baseball, usually one comes out on top, as did with the platoon of Jayson Werth and Geoff Jenkins in 2008.

With the signings of Jonathan Papelbon and Ty Wigginton, the Phillies seems like they might be done in free agency. Papelbon

Michael Cuddyer seems as if he might sign back with the Twins and the Phils would be done.

But are they?

They still have to get the shortstop position filled and today’s talks with Jimmy Rollins’ agent did not seem to go well.

But Aramis Ramirez?

He is a third baseman.

I think it is just smoke, to make Jimmy Rollins sign.

Rollins wants five years and the Phillies only seem to want to give him three with an option for a fourth year.

If Rollins does not sign, expect some wheeling and dealing.

Remember last year, when the Phillies seems to not have any money and landed Cliff Lee?

Not that kind of signing this year, but a trade could be in works.

Trade Placido Polanco? Polanco

He is too injury prone and could play part time with Ramirez.

Who has trade value with the Phillies.

Shane Victorino?

But the name that keeps coming back to me is Cole Hamels.

He is the only major chip the Phillies have.

I don’t think it will come to that, but I do think something is brewing.

And I don’t mean Prince Fielder.
