George signs on with RCR for partial truck schedule

Richard Childress Racing announced on Wednesday that ARCA Racing Series driver Tim George Jr. will compete in 12 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races for RCR in 2012. He’ll drive a No. 2 truck in those events.

“Tim has shown a great amount of improvement, running in the ARCA Racing Series these past few years that included his first career win,” RCR President and CEO Richard Childress said. “We’re ready to further strengthen his skills and moving him to the Camping World Truck Series is the next logical step.”

In his truck events, George will have teammates 2011 ARCA champion Ty Dillon and Truck Series 2011 Rookie of the Year Joey Coulter to lean on.

“Having Ty Dillon and Joey Coulter as his teammates will help support his learning curve, and I’m excited to see how he’ll perform,” Childress said.

George finished seventh in points in ARCA in 2011 and claimed his first win in that series at Pocono Raceway. He also posted eight top-fives and 10 top-10 finishes. He made his debut in the Truck Series in November 2009.

“This is a great opportunity that Richard Childress and everyone at RCR have given me,” George said. “To be invited back to race in NASCAR with one of the best racing teams in history is a dream come true. Being teammates with Ty Dillon and Joey Coulter will be fun, and I look forward to learning more about how to race these trucks.”

Bruce Cook, who moves to RCR from Kevin Harvick Inc., will be crew chief on the No. 2 team.

The race schedule for George in 2012 Truck Series competition has not yet been released.
