Thanks, Philadelphia. You have given us a lot of memories
A couple of the other MTR writers have rolled out their Thanksgiving sports thanks, so I thought I would give a shout out also.
Michael Vick and Vince Young: These guys shut out all the critics and just play their hearts out. As much as Young made some sloppy plays early, the team was amazing in the fourth quarter of the 17-10 win over the Giants, from Jason Avant’s shoe string catch to one of the balls that Riley Cooper didn’t catch. Cooper made sure the Giants could not catch it, either. If you think that Young is the only Eagles QB who can pull out a comeback? Remember last year's 38-30 victory over the Giants that Vick had a large role in the win. (I know Vick will never be liked in some circles, but he did his time, and I think he has for the most part, said the right things).
Ruben Amaro, Jr.: This guy pulls the trigger when you least expect it. Not everyone liked the Jonathan Papelbon signing, but Amaro got what is considered the second best closer in the game. Balls out, baby! All the way.
Philadelphia fans: The best in the planet. They will let a player know if they are dogging it and will cheer for the athletes that give all out. I guarantee that at some point, Ryan Madson will be booed in Philadelphia. And he did nothing wrong, yet. But he will no longer be wearing the red pinstripes.
The athletes who wanted to come (back) to Philadelphia: Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, Jaromír Jagr, Michael Vick, Vince Young, Nnamdi Asomugha.
Our opponents: The New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots. Without them, what good would come back wins mean.
Holiday sports: Football on Thanksgiving Day, golf at Easter, NBA basketball on Christmas Day: Without the games, men would have no excuse to avoid helping out with the meal.
Our superstars and game-changers: Dr. J, Mike Schmidt, Roy Halladay, DeSean Jackson, Assante Samuel, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Brad Lidge, and hopefully Jonathan Papelbon.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
