Piquet heads to Turner for 2012
Turner Motorsports announced on Friday that NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Nelson Piquet Jr. will join the team full-time to in 2012. He'll also compete on a part-time basis for the organization in the Nationwide Series.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to come to Turner Motorsports in 2012," Piquet said. "They are one of the top organizations in our sport and are proven winners. I know we will be in the hunt for the Camping World Truck Series championship, and I will gain invaluable experience behind the wheel of the Nationwide Series car."
With one season remaining (Friday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway) in his 2010 Camping World Truck Series rookie campaign, Piquet has posted four top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes in 24 races. He is finishing out the year in the No. 8 truck for Kevin Harvick Inc. At the end of the season, KHI is getting out of Truck Series competition and has sold its assets to Eddie Sharp Racing.
"Turner Motorsports prides itself on cultivating young talent," team owner Steve Turner said. "One of our main objectives is to give drivers a platform to showcase their abilities to help propel them to NASCAR's highest level. Nelson brings a significant amount of experience and depth to our driver lineup."
Piquet will get his relationship with the Turner organization started a little early, as he'll be behind the wheel of the team's No. 30 entry in the Nationwide Series season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday.
