For Eagles, Starting Tonight Every Game is a Must Win
For the 3-4 Philadelphia Eagles, tonight's matchup with the 4-3 Chicago Bears is more than a chance to get back to .500, it's a pivotal game that could make or break their season.
Eagles fans at this point are well aware and well versed on the Birds' 1-4 start. A season that appeared rich with hope and excitement quickly turned into a stunning disappointment. 2 solid wins, however, have the team on the verge of getting back in the game, and competing for the division in a weak NFC East.
This matchup with the Bears is a pivotal game for the Philadelphia Eagles for a couple of reasons. First, a win against the Bears on Monday Night Football could continue the momentum that the team built in sound defeats of the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. If the Eagles are going to step up and challenge in the East, they will have to win games against good teams. The Bears are a good team. Not great, but good.
The other reason the Eagles need this game against the Bears is because the Eagles will likely need to win 10 games to challenge for the division. With teams like the Giants (5-2), Patriots (5-2) and Jets (4-3) left on their schedule, the Eagles have very little room for error.
In order for the Eagles to get those ten wins, they're going to have to go 7-2 in the remaining 9 games. A loss to Chicago could really put a damper on their chances of a 2nd half resurrection. 7-2 in 9 games is a stretch in the NFL, but 7-1 in 8 is almost impossible.
The Eagles have put together a couple of well played games. LeSean McCoy, Michael Vick and the resurgent Offensive Line have played major roles in that success. They'll all need to continue to play well to keep hope alive in Eagle land.
