Dolphins Seeing a New Light
Wow. Matt Moore and the Miami Dolphins have something to smile about again. Yup thats right Phins fans, the Dolphins have locked in another W in the win column after a 20-9 victory this afternoon over the Washington Redskins. That makes for a total of two W's on the season.
Moore, despite not throwing for a single touchdown was 20/29 with 209 yards passing. His leading receiver Brandon Marshall caught 7 passes for 98 yards. Reggie Bush had a decent day himself with 14 carries for 47 yards rushing and the only player on the team to score a touchdown. He had two on the day. After his second, that came late in the fourth quarter, he crossed the goal line stood up and heaved the ball into the stands with extreme celebration. I suppose that something to be happy about right?
The Dolphins have another thing to be happy about. They have officially snapped a 7 game loosing streak at Sun-Life Stadium. Not only that but they have now played for two wins in a row and have not blown their fourth quarter leads. Three of their previous losses all came from blown fourth quarter leads.
The Dolphins, who entered the game with just two interceptions all year, doubled that today. Vontae Davis intercepted Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman in the first half, and Karlos Dansby picked him off at the Dolphins’ 5-yard line in the fourth quarter. Dansby’s interception all-but-sealed the win, and Bush’s 18 yard touchdown run finished it off. Dansby after the game was quoted by MiamiHerald.com saying, " i am the best linebacker in the NFL. I can do it all." Dansby may be jumping the gun on this one, but after getting the game ball for having a sack, an interception, and ten tackles on the day, it may be worth talking about.
For the Redskins, Grossman was 21/32 with 215 yards passing. Their leading receiver Leonard Hankerson had 8 carries for 108 yards. In their rushing game Roy Helu had 6 carries for a total of 41 yards. The Redskins (3-6) loss lead them to their fifth consecutive loss, the longest losing streak of Mike Shanahan's career as a head coach.
The Redskins' three scoring drives totaled a minimal 48 yards. They took over two separate times deep in Miami territory thanks to an interception and a fumble recovery, but each time settled for a field goal by Graham Gano. Gano missed two field goals on the day however, one from 49 yards and the other from 50. Although I dare say that even with both of those missed field goals made, the Redskins still simply didnt have enough offense to defeat the Dolphins.
The Dolphins will stay at home in Sun-Life Stadium next week to face Ryan Fitzpatrick and Buffalo Bills (5-4) who have lost two in a row after a loss to Dallas today.
