Criticism of NASCAR's move to EFI costs Keselowski
Following recent tests of the electronic fuel injection system NASCAR plans to transition to in its Sprint Cup Series in 2012, driver Brad Keselowski made comments recently during an appearance at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and on his official Twitter account, @Keselowski, referring to EFI a disaster that he doesn't think the fans will get any benefit from.
"It gives NASCAR something to promote, absolutely," was one of the statements made by Keselowski. "And we're always looking for something to promote. But the honest answer is it does nothing for the sport other than to cost the team owners money."
NASCAR, which previously fined drivers Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin for negative comments they made regarding NASCAR matters, has, according to some sources, fined Keselowski $25,000 for his negative fuel injection comments.
Neither NASCAR nor Keselowski have confirmed or denied the reports. One thing NASCAR has said, though, is that there was a discussion with Keselowski about his remarks.
"We did talk to Brad following his recent comments that were highly critical of the series moving to electronic fuel injection next season," NASCAR's Kerry Tharp said. "We made it clear to him that these kinds of comments are detrimental to the sport, and we handled it accordingly with him."
