Cowboys Redskins 2011 Game 2 - The Return of Jones
This year’s game two rematch between the Tony Romo led Dallas Cowboys and the Rex Grossman led Washington Redskins will only mean something to one team. And that team is the Dallas Cowboys.
The 3-6 Redskins share the NFC East basement with the Nightmare on Broad Street Philadelphia Eagles. They are a team that is a mess, including Grossman who was benched for several games. His comeback, if you can call it that, has been dreadful. With the season just half over Coach Mike Shanahan has to be looking forward to next season already. But a win over the playoff bubble Cowboys might make the 2011 medicine go down a little easier for the Redskins.
I have always predicted, prior to the season that the NFC East teams would split their season series with each other. It doesn’t seem to matter which team is playing which, or who is on a roll or who is struggling; NFC East teams beat the crap out of each other and the division winner is just happy to get out alive.
Not this time for the Redskins. The Cowboys won the Week 3 matchup in Dallas in a Field Goal Fest where the Cowboys Rookie Kicker hit 6 kicks to win the game 18-16.
At the time the Cowboys offense was anemic at best. The defense has been solid all year including the first game so if Romo, Bryant, Murray and company can move the ball this game will not even be close.
The question is IF? The Cowboys have shown flashes of greatness this season but then the dark side comes out and its game give away time. Romo again needs to use Rookie RB Murray and returning from injury again Felix Jones to keep the ball on the ground to control the game.
You can bet that Felix “The Cat” Jones will be looking to get his starting position back. So look for a big game from him especially in the short pass game. It will be interesting to see if coach Garrett uses both RB at the same time to add speed to an already explosive offense.
