Biffle Takes Pole at Texas
With a qualifying lap time of 27.83 seconds, Greg Biffle claimed the pole starting spot on Friday afternoon for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
“It was a great lap for us,” Biffle said. “Our car was really, really fast right off the truck.”
Roush Fenway Racing claimed the top-three spots on the starting grid, as David Ragan qualified second, just missing his teammates pole run by 0.001 seconds with 27.874-second lap. Matt Kenseth claimed the third starting spot with a 27.884-second qualifying lap.
“My lap was pretty good,” Kenseth said. “It was better than practice. We were tight the whole time in practice and changed some stuff and was just a little too loose in qualifying, but, obviously, it was a good lap and a good spot to start Sunday.”
By qualifying third, Kenseth was the highest-qualifying Chase for the Sprint Cup competitor.
Paul Menard was fourth-fastest in qualifying, with a lap time of 27.916 seconds. Tony Stewart rounded out the top-five with a 27.942-second qualifying lap.
Of the 12 Chase drivers, Denny Hamlin was the slowest qualifier. He claimed the 28th starting spot with a lap time of 28.273 seconds.
Forty-six cars made qualifying runs in attempts to make the 43-car field. Drivers who failed to make the race include David Stremme, David Starr and Reed Sorenson.
