There is a War in America Over Public Education? Who Loses?
The students.
California is 46th in K-12 spending per student.
“California Watch” reported the new analysis by the “California Budget Project”.
“California ranked last in the nation in the number of students per teacher (20.5) and per librarian (5,489), 49th in the number of students per guidance counselor (810) and 46th in the number of students per administrator (301).”
Many communities around the country are terminating music and art teachers. Teachers of special needs students have also been fired. Students are unable to take certain subjects in order to apply for their desired colleges because the teachers are gone or have been reassigned. Also, school librarians, technology teachers, and teachers of gifted and talented are longer teaching.
I’d hate to be a public school student today, missing all the enriching and necessary opportunities that we had, and unable to prepare for the right college for me.
