The NFL is Bleeding Pink

Bcanfllogo2008

For the NFL Breast Cancer Awareness month is in full swing. Players from every team are representing the month by wearing pink gear. Anything from pink shoes, to pink gloves and pink wristbands have been seen across the teams. Did I mention the game balls also have the ribbon on them and that the coins the referees toss to start the game are special edition pink too? The NFL.com website itself is bannered by the Pink Ribbon and a pink backdrop.

So who else is wearing pink? The fans of course! Fans across the country have shown their support to the cause and have been seen wearing tons of pink gear.

The NFL's campaign, "A Crucial Catch", in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are 40 and older.

All apparel worn at games by players and coaches, along with special game balls and pink coins will be auctioned off at NFL Auction, with all the money raised going to benefit the American Cancer Society and team charities.

The NFL has been a long time supporter of the Breast Cancer Awareness idea and it remains true in the 2011-2012 season.

Some players, like Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals, know all too well the effects of breast cancer. In 2003 Fitzgerald lost his mother to breast cancer. "I am proud to wear pink as part of the NFL Crucial Catch Campaign," Fitzgerald said. "Together with the NFL and the American Cancer Society you can fight breast cancer and save lives."

Games from October 5 through October 27 will be designated as NFL Breast Cancer Awareness games.

Every team in the NFL has partnered with an organization to help promote the cause. An example being the Miami Dolphins Dolphins whose cheerleaders will be collecting donations at all home games in October. The Dolphins will host a special breast cancer awareness halftime program on Oct. 26, and wives and family members of Dolphin players will be handing out pink ribbons at stadium entry gates before the game.

The New York Giants are also supporting and are hosting their annual breast cancer awareness day on Oct. 5. They will work with ZTA to distribute free pink ribbons and donations will be made by The Giants Foundation for Breast Cancer initiatives to any special guest who can kick a field goal.

The NFL and the members of its many organizations, including wives of many of the players, referees and coaches, are definitely bleeding pink this month.
