Stanford vs USC: Preview & Predicton

Saturday night's primetime game between the Stanford Cardinal and the USC Trojans features a matchup of two quarterbacks on their way to being first round NFL picks.

USC's signal caller Matt Barkley is right now rated as the third best college QB in the country, while Stanford's Andrew Luck is considered by just about everybody as the best. (I may be the only person that has doubts, but we will save that for another day...)

Luck would probably have been the number 1 overall pick in the NFL draft had he elected to turn pro last year. This season, he will be the unquestioned top selection. He has been referred to as the single most "NFL ready" college quarterback .... ever.

Pro teams like the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts are already either tanking games, or their fans are clamoring for them to do so, so they can finish last and thus draft first and win out on the "Luck Lottery."

Stanford is the 6th ranked team in the country. They are 7-0, and they have covered the spread in each and every game. They have dismantled every team they have played so far, averaging over 50 points a game.

The thing is, they have been a big favorite in every game so far. They have yet to play a tough team. They have been expected to blow out every team on their schedule so far, and they have. But things get much tougher on Saturday night.

Southern Cal has heard all the hype. Their head coach Lane Kiffin called Andrew Luck "perfect." I think that was a ploy to get his team a little angry. And I think it probably will work.

USC has not played many good teams this season either, but they are coming off a nice win at Notre Dame, a game in which they were a 10 point underdog.

They are getting better, and should be set up perfectly to play their absolute best in this game.

Both teams are going to be able to score alot of points. This should be a high energy, high level, shootout. And when its over, the home team Trojans will show that all the hype for Stanford was maybe a little overdone.

At the very least, USC will play their best game, and keep it close. They are getting 8 points at home, and that is just the kind of spot I like -- a home dog, that will be fired up, and has every intention of winning the game outright.

The Pick:

***** Give me the home dog, take USC +8

***** Parlay USC +8  w/ OVER 61
