NFL Sunday Selection: Washington at Buffalo

I am still in a mild state of shock about the way the Stanford-USC game ended. The Trojans deserved better, and the people who bet on the Trojans certainly deserved better!

After a well-played game ended regulation tied, the game went to OT and the ridiculous rules the NCAA employs. It is basically equivalent to a shootout in hockey. It bears little resemblance to the actual game....

Stanford won in triple OT, and after converting the mandatory 2 point conversion, the final was 56-48. My USC +8 plays were pushes. I'm sure there are many people who had USC +7.5 who are REALLY upset...but thats the way it goes sometimes. Move on to the next one ...

One game stands out on Sunday afternoon as a winner, and that is the Buffalo Bills (-4) over the Washington Redskins.

Buffalo is one of the surprise stories so far this season. They are 4-2, and actually handed the AFC East division leading New England Patriots their only loss of the year.

The Bills are 3-0 at home, having beat three solid teams in Oakland, NE, and Philly. They are just 1-2 on the road, but both losses were by a field goal.

They come into Sunday's game off their bye week, which gives NFL teams time to get healthy and prepared for the the rest of the season. Teams typically play very well off their bye week. Buffalo is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games after the bye.

The Bills games have played OVER in all 6 so far this year. They are averaging more than 31 points a game. They have a nice mix of run, led by Fred Jackson, and pass, led by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and WR Stevie Johnson.

Washington comes in off two straight losses, and with an unsettled QB situation. Starter Rex Grossman was benched after a 4 INT game against Philly. The new guy, John Beck, does not exactly strike fear in the hearts of NFL defensive coordinators. I don't think the Bills are too concerned which of these two lines up as the starter.

The Redskins come into this one banged up. RB Tim Hightower, WR Santana Moss, and TE Chris Cooley are all out. They will have trouble putting up points in this game.

I think the Bills come out sharp, and build on the momentum they got started before their bye week. Look for Buffalo to pull away to a TD+ win.

The Pick:

***** Take Buffalo -4
