Jim Carr Lives For His Son's Story

Eyes150x150Jim Carr, now entering his 13th campaign at Rutgers University as director of basketball operations under second season head coach Mike Rice, visited a class of sports journalism students yesterday to share a story so touching that one might even say that it's worth telling 20 more times.

Aside from the talk of journalism and how to deal with the media, especially as a coach, but even more so as a reporter, Carr told the class the story of his late son, Brayden, who lost his battle to a rare medical condition just a few short months ago. Brayden was just 2 1/2 years old. Despite the overwhelming sadness involved with such a story, Carr took a much different angle while addressing the class.

That angle was that of networking. Carr said that as a member of such an amazing community of coaches, doctors, and athletes he was able to gain his son the absolute best of the best care, which may have been the reason he and his wife had as long as they did with the young Brayden. Carr emphasized that the people you meet in your life come for a reason, and what you do with those people is your choice.

Out of tragedy, the Carr family dedicated their lives to honoring their son’s soaring spirit and contagious enthusiasm for life through positive actions. Jim and his wife Natalie announced the founding of “In Brayden’s Eyes, The Brayden Carr Foundation” this past July. The foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization. Their foundation has a 100% volunteer staff and 100% percent of its net proceeds go directly into a fund to provide athletic, social, rehabilitative, and academic opportunities to children with seizure conditions, with or without motor delays from associated cerebral palsy, as well as to provide humanitarian support/relief to their parents.

The Brayden Carr Foundation has done some amazing things including hosting a coaches clinic this past september 30th in which many of the top basketball coaches in the country came and worked together in efforts to raise money for the foundation.

Carr ended his speech by telling all the students to like the facebook page that has been set up for his son. The link is as follows

Carr also encouraged the students to like the twitter page set up in his sons name because for every follower there is a donation made to the foundation. Here is the link:!/braydencarr

Please send your love and support to the Carr family and open your heart to help this family allow their son's legacy to live on and go on without being unheard.
