Giants Add Tryon, Plus More News and Notes

  • The New York Giants have signed cornerback Justin Tryon, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts.  Tryon was graded as the No.21 cornerback in the league last year in coverage according to Pro Football Focus.  He started six games last season for the Colts and batted down seven passes.  He was waived last week after falling into head coach Jim Caldwell’s doghouse and made comments after his release suggesting that Caldwell is not really the one calling the shots in Indy.  Tryon will add depth to a Giants secondary that has held up surprisingly well despite numerous injuries.  Tryon will certainly be used on special teams to begin with, but could also get a look on defense in nickel and dime packages.

  • The Giants also signed center Jim Cordle from their practice squad on Tuesday.  Cordle is unlikely to see game action and will mostly serve as depth.  He was needed after Giants starting center David Baas suffered a stinger in Sunday’s game at Arizona.  Kevin Boothe replaced Baas during the game and will presumably start Sunday at Seattle if Baas is unable to go.

  • In other Giants offensive line news, left tackle Will Beatty has an app available for purchase in the iTunes store.  I came across this by accident the other day while searching for a Giants app.  Apparently for $.99 you can follow Beatty’s season as he protects Eli Manning’s blindside.  He will also be giving away Giants tickets and merchandise exclusively through the app, a must-buy for die hard Giants fans.
