“Dream Team” turning into a Nightmare for Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles were ahead 23-3 early in the third quarter, only to see the visiting San Francisco 49ers score 21 unanswered points for a 24-23 loss on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
While waiting for Michael Vick to make plays, well he did have a record day passing, Jeremy Maclin fumbled away after getting a first down deep in San Francisco territory with about two minutes left in the game.
Alex Smith was awful in the first half, only to have San Francisco make any significant plays in the second half.
Oh, Eagles' kicker Alex Henery, who made three first half field goals, missed two field goals in the second half, including a 33-yarder with a chance to go nine points ahead.
Who needs experience as a field goal kicker when the game is on the line?
The Eagles’ red zone offense continued to struggle, making touchdowns on two of seven scoring opportunities.
DeSean Jackson was Vick’s main weapon with six catches for 171 yards.
Vick passed for a career-high 416 yards and ran for another 75.
However, 49ers’ running back Frank Gore ran for 127 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown.
The defense, with the exception of the line, plain out sucked.
The defensive back field, touted so great in the pre-season, couldn’t stop Josh Morgan and Vernon Davis when the game was on the line. Both scored.
“You can’t sit on leads in the NFL,” Eagles head coach Andy Reid said post-game.
In past weeks the defense has been tired in the fourth quarter (Jason Babbin on Daily New Live), had to work harder and work their butts off (defensive coordinator Juan Castillo) and the head coach has to do a better job.
I am tired of it all.
Eagles are now 1-3.
Thank God for the Phillies.
