Comerica Curse Continues as Rangers Drop Game 3 to Tigers
"Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes it rains." That's certainly been illustrated in the ALCS so far. Tonight, the Rangers embodied the "lose" part of that quote. In horrendous fashion.
Colby Lewis looked good early on -- like Postseason Colby. He struck out six in 5.2 innings. That's the good news. The bad news is he gave up two home runs. Koji Uehara couldn't let Colby have all the fun. He gave up a home run of his own, as the Tigers continued to pour on the offensive assault on the Rangers pitching. The Rangers were only down by four runs at this point, but it felt more like eight.
The deficit felt insurmountable because the Rangers seemed to have left their bats in Texas. They got a run in the 1st, but then Michael Young hit into a deflating doubleplay. After that, they just couldn't seem to put anything together, save another run in the 8th. Doug Fister is a fine pitcher, but our bats are better than two runs on seven hits. Yorvit Torrealba had three of the team's hits tonight, but he wasn't so smart on the bases. In the 5th, he singled and then was thrown out trying to steal second. In the 8th, he was nearly thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double. Thank goodness the throw popped out of the glove, and he eventually came around to score.
KISS: Ian Kinsler. He was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and he was the first run to score, which was perhaps the last time I felt optimistic about this game all night.
MISS: Michael Young. 0 for 4 with three groundouts and a K tonight. It has not been a pretty postseason for him.
FINAL SCORE
Rangers :: 2 R, 8 H, 3 TLOB
Tigers :: 4 R, 11 H, 8 TLOB
Wednesday's match-up
@ DET, 3:19 p.m. CST
Matt Harrison (14-9, 3.39 ERA) vs. Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.75 ERA)
Rangers lead the series 2-1. No time to panic. This is only the team's second postseason loss this year, so it's hard to get too upset.
