The Philadelphia Flyers Finally Name Chris Pronger 18th Captain in Team History

All of the speculation has ended, and at last, the Philadelphia Flyers named Chris Pronger the 18th Captain in franchise history.

From the moment that the Philadelphia Flyers traded Mike Richards, it was speculated that Chris Pronger, who many believed was already the Captain in the absence of any leadership from Mike Richards, would be named Captain.

The only concern with Pronger being named Captain is one I have already chronicled. He will need to stay healthy and be present in order to be an effecter leader on a team filled with new faces and youth. Pronger, aside from health issues, is an excellent choice and a great leader for this team.

Danny Briere and Kimmo Timonen were named as Alternate Captains as expected. They will also provide solid veteran leadership for this team.

Chris Pronger joins the ranks of Bobby Clarke, Dave Poulin, Ed Van Impe, Eric Lindros, Rick Tocchet and Keith Primeau as Flyers captains.
