Scott Miller joins MWR
A day after Richard Childress Racing announced that Scott Miller was leaving the organization for an opportunity with another team, Michael Waltrip Racing announced on Wednesday that it had hired Miller to fill the position of Executive Vice President of Competition, effective at the end of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
“This is the highest ranking role in our competition department, and we needed a person with great knowledge of our sport, experience in managing highly-competitive personnel and a vast technical background,” team owner Michael Waltrip said. “Scott is exactly all of those things. This is such an important hire for our organization.” Miller’s new job at MWR will include managing all competition aspects of the organization -- design, manufacturing an engineering. “Scott is used to winning, and we expect a lot of each other,” Waltrip said. “As owners, our job is to provide our teams the human and capital resources needed to be successful. This is another step in that maturing process.” Miller has worked in NASCAR for 16 years, most recently as Director of Competition at Richard Childress Racing. He has also been a winning crew chief. He began his NASCAR career as a shock specialist with Tri-Star Motorsports in 1995. He joined RCR in 1997 and remained at that organization until recently, with the exception of spending 2000 and 2001 with PPI Motorsports.
