"All-Hype Team" or "Dream Team?" - Answers Coming Soon for Eagles
The preseason in the NFL is just that. It doesn't count for anything, and it really doesn't show you the total package. Obviously teams are not going to run out their top tier coverages and offensive plays in a game that essentially does nothing for them.
Understand that the preseason does give you the ability to gauge a player's fitness level or level of play, but really does little else.
By Andy Reid standards, this was one of the most successful preseasons we have seen from the Eagles... For what that's worth. Aside from a thorough beating at the hands of last year's AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the preseason was kind of lackluster. Why started out buzzing with excitement, kind of gave way to quiet concern for the Eagles offensive line and linebacker issues.
But now, the preseason is over... From this point forward, the games count and they don't just mean something, they mean everything. Today, the Philadelphia Eagles will begin the chase for something that has eluded them for 51 years - a Championship.
Big names have been added the Philadelphia Eagles' roster. In fact, the Eagles were the splash of the free agency class. Names like Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Ronnie Brown and Vince Young put a huge target on this team, and catapulted them to "team to beat status" in the NFC. A $100 million deal for Michael Vick solidified Philadelphia's commitment to Michael Vick, a man many believe could help the Eagles soar to new heights.
Vince Young's comments dubbing the Eagles as a "dream team" will ring in opposing locker rooms for this entire year. It will serve as fuel to teams who will beg to differ with Young and who will be gunning to knock the Eagles off. Whether Young's words will come back to bite this team in the backside remains to be seen, but make no mistake, you have not heard the last of that quote.
Anything less than a Super Bowl victory will be viewed as an abject failure for the Eagles. Anything less than a Super Bowl victory will result in an ever growing chorus of fans who would like to see someone else, anyone else, coach the Philadelphia Eagles besides Andy Reid.
Will Michael Vick be durable enough to play 16 games? Will Danny Watkins grow into the player the Eagles feel he can be? Will DeSean Jackson get a new contract, or will he play at 100% if he doesn't get the new contract?Ng Will the offensive line gel, or disintegrate? Will the Eagles be the "All-Hype Team" or the "Dream Team?"
