With Vick Locked Up, The Eagles Must Focus On DeSean
So Michael Vick got his contract extension, and the Philadelphia Eagles were able to cross a big entry off on their to do list. But they’re not quite done yet. In fact, they may be just getting started and the hardest part may be yet to come.
There have been a couple of issues that have loomed over this Eagles preseason. Most of them have worked out, or are in the process of doing so. Vick got his money and wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Steve Smith are back on the practice field. There are some roster decisions that still need to be made, but the majority of off field issues have been settled.
Except one…
Philadelphia Eagles Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson may be the next Philadelphia Eagle in line to get a new contract. For the sake of the Eagles and their chances of winning, he'd better be.
DeSean Jackson missed the first 11 days of camp this year as he held out in hopes of getting a new contract.
When Jackson finally reported to camp, the Eagles front office was already in the midst of negotiating a new deal for Vick. It was understood that they wouldn’t likely take on 2 major deals at the same time. Now, Vick is locked up. There are no more excuses and no more reasons why the Eagles can’t get a deal done with Jackson.
The Philadelphia Eagles need to focus in and get this deal done because if they don’t, this issue will continue to linger and could very easily deteriorate into a major distraction for the team. Jackson has already shown that he might be a bit timid about putting his body on the line to make a catch.
If this Eagles team is going to win this year, they will need DeSean Jackson in tow and playing fearlessly. The next move will be the Eagles’.
