New York Giants Catch Bad Break with Prince
In just his second practice of his NFL career, Prince Amukamara left practice yesterday with an apparent injury to his left foot.
Well that injury is as bad as Giants fans would fear, as Amukamara has broken the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot. This injury will require surgery in order to heal properly. For now the Giants have Amukamara down as out indefinitely.
Amukamara was brought in to help add depth to the Giants secondary and give them flexibility in the secondary. Now, with the Giants already having lost Bruce Johnson to a ruptured achilles, they are thin at cornerback, only having Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross. They have to hope Amukamara recovers fast or obtain another corner to help out.
This is the same injury that Offensive Tackel William Beatty suffered last year to his right foot. Beatty missed two months while recovering from the surgery but was able to return later in the season. The Giants should have hope that Amukamara might be able to come back in time for the season opener.
This injury gives the Giants all the more reason to work something out with Defensive End Osi Umenyiora. They are going to need to create more pressure up front to help the thinning secondary. Hopefully Amukamara returns to full strength in time to start the season, but fans will just have to wait and see.
