Jesus Is Coming: Montero To Be Bronx Bound Very Soon
The Trenton Times is reporting that the New York Yankees could be reshaping their minor league system very soon. Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances, and Jesus Montero were the key pieces that Brian Cashman did not want to package in a deal for Ubaldo Jimenez and their short term plans could soon be changing. It began with Banuelos yesterday afternoon after the trade deadline passed.
Manny Banuelos was promoted to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees after Trenton lost its game 5-0 to Richmond. He is expected to start Tuesday for Scranton at home against Lehigh Valley. Some analysts expect the Yankees to possibly have him join the team as a reliever his first time around. Moving a pitcher from the rotation to the bullpen and back to the rotation has not paid off in the past with Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes. Banuelos is a workhorse and they are hoping his stint as a reliever won't affect him too much, but provide him with a fine taste of the Major Leagues.
Austin Romine was untouchable at the trade deadline, because the Yankees would have promoted him to be their top catching prospect had Montero left. He is expected to be promoted to AAA Scranton some time soon. The main reason is because Jesus Montero is reportedly going to get his call up from Scranton to New York very soon. The 21 year old has ten home-runs in the minor leagues and has been batting .283/.342/.429. In a recently published list of top prospects in the minor leagues, Montero's stock has fallen since last season.
Dellin Betances is expected to join Banuelos in Scranton soon. As the deadline approached, most of the teams that the Yankees were in talks with inquired about Betances' availability. Brian Cashman is very high on Betances' potential, which is another reason the right-handed pitcher stuck around after the deadline.
Banuelos promoted? Check. Montero promoted? Coming Up Next.
