Bullpen rescues Ogando, Hamilton hits the walk-off
Alexi Ogando is not allowed to father a child ever again. OK, that might be a little dramatic. But really. I was not a fan of his outing tonight.
Fresh off paternity leave in the Dominican Republic, Ogando looked horrible against the Mariners tonight. Just horrible. He couldn't even get out of the third inning before he gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks. He didn't strike out anyone in this that time. It makes me appreciate Matt Harrison's start a little more. I hope Ogando recovers before I see him this weekend.
The Rangers offense didn't play very well at the start either. Both teams got two runs in the first inning, but then, with help from Ogando, the Mariners pulled away in the succeeding frames, taking a 6-3 lead in the 3rd inning. The Rangers put up a bunch of zeroes until the 7th inning, when Ian Kinsler hit a two-run jack to pull the team within one. In the 8th, Yorvit Torrealba smacked an RBI double to tie it. It came down to the bottom of the 9th --- Kinsler walked, Endy Chavez reached on a bunt single and Josh Hamilton hit a single up the middle to bring Kinsler home for the winning run.
Whew.
Way too much drama for my taste. Seeing Ron Washington's celebration dance was priceless though.
Thank you, Kins, Yor Tor, Endy and Josh. Thank you, bullpen (no longer a mess).
KISS: Endy Chavez was a machine tonight --- 3 for 5 with two RBI. And that bunt in the 9th was beautiful.
MISS: Ogando. Find yourself again, son.
