Roy Halladay finally wins his twelfth start of the year as the Phils defeat the Padres, 5-3.

Roy Halladay finally gets his twelfth victory of the season as the Phils beat the Padres, 5-3.

The Padres took the lead in the first as, with one man on, and with one man out, Chase Headley hits an RBI single, scoring Cameron Maybin, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, giving the Padres a 1-0 lead. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in their half of the first as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Shane Victorino hits an RBI single, knocking in Chase Utley, who had earlier walked, then went to third on Ryan Howard’s single, while sending Howard, who had just singled, up to second base. The Phils then took the lead as Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Howard, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while Victorino would stop at third base. The Phils then made it a 3-1 lead in the third as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Ibanez hits an RBI single, knocking in Howard, who had earlier doubled, then stopped at third on Victorino’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3. Two batters later, with two men on, and with still one man out, Carlos Ruiz hits a two-run double, knocking in Ibanez, who had stopped at second base on Dom Brown’s single, and Brown, who had just singled, giving the Phils a 5-1 lead. The Padres got a run back in the fourth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Alberto Gonzalez hits an RBI single, knocking in Kyle Blanks, who had earlier singled, then stopped at second base on a Howard’s throwing error of Kyle Phillips’ grounder, making it a 5-2 Phils’ lead, while sending Phillips, who had reached base on Howard’s error, on to third. The Padres then cut the Phils’ lead down to 5-3 as Tim Stuaffer performed a suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt, 3-4, bringing home Philips, while sending Gonzalez to second base. But that would be the final score as Roy Halladay settled down and threw four straight scoreless innings, with the last three being quick 1-2-3 innings, before Antonio Bastardo came in and recorded his eighth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Roy Halladay (12-4, 2.55) got the win as he pitched eight innings, giving up three runs, two of which were earned, on eight hits and a walk, while he struck out eight. Antonio Bastardo recorded his eighth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out a batter. Tim Stauffer (6-7, 3.05) took the lost as he went five and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and four walks, while he struck out five. Josh Spence and Luke Gregerson combine for two and one-thirds scoreless innings, giving up a walk (Spence), while striking out three batters (Spence (1), Gregerson (2)), between them.

The Phils had eight hits in the ballgame, with Ryan Howard (Single, Double) and Raul Ibanez (Single, Double, 2 RBIs) both leading the team with two hits each.
