« Ravens lose first free agent (and another one) | Main | Jerry Meal's Explanation Is Worse Than His Call »

Is Matt LaPorta the Benoit Benjamin of baseball?

Benjamin was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 1985 NBA Draft and there were great expectations for his career.

LaPorta was drafted 7th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2007 and there were great expectations for him. He was the main player that the Cleveland Indians received in the trade for CC Sabathia.

Benjamin never reached the lofty heights expected of the 7 foot center and ended up playing for 9 teams in his NBA career.

LaPorta has been inconsistent in his play with some people thinking that there are holes in his swing. Will he become a much traveled journeyman ballplayer like Benjamin with maybe a career year but never reaching the expectations that have followed him?
