Cleveland wins 3rd in a row. Record now at 44-37. Carmona hurt however.

Last weekend had the Tribe getting swept. This weekend so far has been in the Tribe's favor and in line for a sweep of the Reds. A nine game road trip that ends this afternoon has the Indians at 4-4 going in to the final game.

This happened yesterday afternoon thanks to a three run homerun by Michael Brantley that happened in the top of the 3rd inning right after Fausto Carmona, the Indians' ace starter took a tumble on his way to first base. The official report said Carmona's hand was injured the previous inning while trying to field a ball off the bat of Homer Bailey and that he injured his quad muscle. Further reports will come possibly later this afternoon.

The beauty of the Indians is that they did not panic as they took the three runs that Brantley helped the team gain and made them stick as they held on 3-1 for the final score. Call it great pitching. The bullpen mafia starting with Frank Herrmann (3 innings pitched, no runs 1 hit and 2 strikeouts), Rafael Perez (1 inning pitched, 1 hit, 1 strikeout, no runs allowed) Joe Smith ( 1 inning pitched, 2 strikeouts, 2 hits and 1 walk with no runs allowed) Tony Sipp (1/3 inning pitched, 2 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout and 1 homerun allowed) Chad Durbin (2/3 innings pitched, 1 strikeout, no runs allowed) and Vinnie Pestano (1 inning pitched, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 hit and no runs allowed)

What is nice is that even though Carmona did nothing to hurt the team by his performance on the mound today, the bullpen picked up his effort and preserved the win. Herrmann was credited with the win, a well-deserved win. Hopefully Carmona is okay and will make his next start against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Indians bullpen is arguably the great reason why the Cleveland Indians are now 1.5 games in front of the Detroit Tigers and looking to wrap up a successful ending to this road trip after the rough start last weekend caused by poor offense and poor defense is a welcome sign for Indians fans as many plan to attend a sold-out Progressive Field on Independence Day.
