Brady, Manning & Brees Call for Lockout End – Didn’t they start this mess?
Hypocrisy comes in many forms. This time it comes in the form of top NFL QBs Brady, Manning and Brees going public to say that “it’s time for a deal.” All NFL fans want a deal to be sure but wasn’t it their lawsuit that started this whole thing or is my memory failing like the players attempt to squeeze more money from NFL owners.
From March 11, 2011 - NBC Sports
Ten players, including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, have filed an antitrust lawsuit against the NFL, seeking to prevent the owners from locking the players out.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court immediately after the players’ union decertified on Friday.
The players have asked for an injunction that would keep the league operating and stop the teams from a lockout when the current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires, at midnight.
The other players named in the lawsuit are Vincent Jackson, Ben Leber, Logan Mankins, Brian Robison, Osi Umenyiora, Mike Vrabel and Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller.
These players can make this all go away by taking that offer that is on the table from the owners and getting back on the field. To act like they have no control over this is just disingenuous.
As I predicted, a new NFL deal will get done when the first players start missing paychecks which is only a few weeks away. There has been good news this week regarding the lockout but the deal is not done until it is done. With NFL training camps scheduled to start in just a matter of a few days it will be interesting to see who blinks first. The 2011 NFL season hangs in the balance.
And I think I know which side just blinked.
