New York Yankees Round-Up June 29th, 2011

Colon Down Derek Jeter, Bartolo Colon, Phil Hughes, and Joba Chamberlain are just some of the big names that the Yankees currently have on their disabled list. With players like those missing games for an extended period of time, many would expect the Yankees to lose their step and fall behind. Yet they continue to succeed with out the likes of their solid pitchers or captain. Since the Yankees were swept by the Red Sox, they have won 13 of 17 contests. There doesn't seem to be a June Swoon for this Yankee line-up.

Here is how some of those injured Yankees are doing on their way back:

-Derek Jeter ran the bases for the first time since his rehab assignment began. He has returned to baseball activity with fielding and hitting. Manager Joe Girardi pointed out that the run was more like 50%-60% of what Jeter is capable of when healthy. There is still no timetable for his return.

-Bartolo Colon looks like he could possibly be ready to pitch this weekend against the New York Mets. He threw sixty pitches in a simulated game and looked fine. The only issue with having him return this weekend is the fact that the game is in Flushing, New York. It isn't about the atmosphere but mainly about the National League rule where the pitchers bat. If Colon were to get on base, he would have to run after returning from a leg injury. It is still debatable if the Subway series is right for him.

-The Trenton Thunder will be sending Phil Hughes to the mound tonight for quite possibly 85 pitches. This will be his third rehab start and will most likely see one more before returning to the Yankees.

-Now there are some Yankees that are playing hurt and will not make a disabled list trip unless it gets worse. Alex Rodriguez is the main player that has been bothered by a sore knee. The injury occurred when they were in Chicago and he tweaked his knee while running the bases. Girardi will be giving him the rest he needs to prevent this from getting out of hand.

-Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira are among the Major League leaders in Home-Runs. Teixeira enters Wednesday night's game tied with Jose Bautista for the MLB lead. Although they have been hot, they announced that they will not be hitting in the Home-Run Derby this All-Star break.

-Only a few hours left to help get your favorite Yankees to the All-Star game. Vote at through 11:59 pm on 6/30. Jeter, Rodriguez, Granderson, and Robinson Cano all lead in their position voting.

-The Yankee pitching in Trenton looked great last night with Manny Banuelos striking out seven batters in five innings, but received a no-decision. The switch pitcher, Pat Venditte, picked up the win after two scoreless innings of work.

-More Bad News for the Dodgers: Andruw Jones is on the list of creditors for them.
