NBA News: Now or Never

"I tweeted yesterday on my Twitter" -

"Now or Never" was the quote that Lebron James posted on his Twitter account prior to game 5 of the NBA Finals between James's Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks.

With the series knotted at 2-2, game 5 had that extra importance. It would determine which team would go up 3-2 in the series and who would be a game away from being the next NBA Champion. As it turned out the Mavs settled that with a 112-103 victory over the Heat in game 5, making Lebron's Twitter quote more urgent. James was hoping that quote would inspire him to have a better performance then he did in game 4 where he scored a playoff low of 8-points. Lebron actually did play better with a triple-double of 17-points, 10-assists, and 10 rebounds. Despite his improvement from the previous game, Lebron still didn't show up when it counted coming up lame again in the fourth quarter. What makes matters worse is that his teammate Dwayne Wade suffered a hip contusion after a collision with Dallas's Brian Cardinal in the first quarter. Wade was in the locker room in two occasions and yet Lebron didn't do much to at least stave off the Mavs. Wade played valiantly to finish with 23 points and Chris Bosh had 19-points and 10-rebounds.

The Mavs on the other hand were relentless. Their fearless leader Dirk Nowitski who was in better shape from that sinus infection he battled in game 4 poured in 29 points. Again Dirk's supporting cast stepped up, Jason Terry scored 21 points and J.J. Barea chewed up the Heat's defense to finish with 17. Barea was very slick with the fake moves he pulled on the Heat defense where he acted like he was going to penetrate and then pause to pull up for the jumper. Barea and Terry had a big part in the Mavs combined 13 of 19 shooting from 3-point range. Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler both finished with 13-points for the Mavs. The key moment in the game was when the Mavs briefly gave up the lead in the fourth after shooting 60% in the first three quarters. In the final 4 minutes the Mavs outscored the Heat 17-4 to cruise into victory.

“We made more shots,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. “We did a lot of good things defensively, which led to good offense. … You never know when the games are going to go that way. The thing we’ve got to do is we’ve got to make sure our defense is consistent.”

So with game 5 out of the way, the pressure is on for the Heat to win. They return to South Beach with game six on the line and their championship aspirations on the brink. Look Dallas can literally taste the gold and are going to do their best to avoid a game seven. I highly doubt they are going to get comfortable knowing they just need one win to clinch it. Guys like Nowitski, Kidd, Marion, and Terry having been chasing the gold for a long time now and they are not going to spoil that chance by letting Miami back in this thing......

You know what I find hilarious is that there is this inkling that Lebron is setting up for a strong performance in game six to again knot the series and then close it out in dramatic fashion in game 7 to win the championship. No, Lebron wouldn't do something like that.......Would he?......nuff said
