John Calipari Staying Put In Lexington With A New Mega-Contract
Any rumors stating that an NBA team was considering John Calipari for their head coaching job or any thoughts of him wanting to leave the NCAA can be put to rest now. The University of Kentucky has decided to extend the contract of their head Men's basketball coach, John Calipari. His new deal is worth $36.5 million and will keep him at Rupp Arena through 2019.
Calipari's reign in Lexington has brought great showings from the Men's basketball team. Since signing on to be the Wildcat's head coach, the team has gone 64-12. What's more impressive is the undefeated streak at home of 33-0.
What was done in this new deal was that Calipari had two years added onto his current contract and a salary upgrade to $3.8 million for the next eight years. There are bonuses for the team's performance at the end of most years.
The future of Kentucky basketball's recruits is looking bright as they have some of the hottest athletes of the high school Class of 2011. Anthony Davis, Marquis Teague, Michael Gilchrist, and Kyle Wildtjer are all big names ready to make a splash in the NCAA next year. Rupp Arena has been crazy for its Wildcats recently and Calipari is not letting them down with the recruiting classes that he brings.
A lot of Calipari's Kentucky prospects go on to do big things in the NBA. Nine of them have been picked in the NBA Draft recently with the highest being No. 1 overall, John Wall, in 2010. It seems like the good old days of Kentucky Basketball are back in Lexington and as long as Calipari is around, things will continue to look bright.
