Bruins force Game 7 as Home-Sick Luongo falters in Boston yet again

Lugo The hockey season has come down to one final game, as the Boston Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 to force a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. The home team has won every game of this series as the two teams head back to Vancouver for the final game on Wednesday.

Both teams are very evenly matched, but it seems that this series has mostly been decided based on the play of Vancouver Canucks’ goalie Roberto Luongo. When Luongo plays well, the Canucks win and when he does not, they lose, and that is the way that this series has panned out so far.

Tonight Luongo got pulled in the 1st period after giving up 3 early goals to the Bruins. He was replaced by Cory Schneider, who gave up two more goals in the eventual loss.

What makes this so interesting is that Luongo is not playing good for a few games and then playing bad the next few; it seems that where he plays is affecting his goaltending. When Luongo is between the pipes at home this series, his team is 3-0 and has outscored the Boston Bruins 5-2 in the three games.

When Luongo is in Boston, however, his team is 0-3 and has been outscored 17-3 in the three games, a much larger margin than the home games. The way the Canucks are playing away from home has not changed, but the way Luongo plays has and in a very bad way.

Perhaps it’s the feeling of being at home, or the Boston water, but whatever the case may be, Roberto Luongo does not like playing in Boston, but loves playing in Vancouver. I think that Canucks should be breathing a sigh of relief that they are the top seed and have home field advantage and that Game 7 is going to be played at home, because that is where Luongo has strived in this series.

Without a goalie, a hockey team is nothing. Roberto Luongo is one of the major reasons that the Vancouver Canucks are where they are right now, and without him, they probably would not be in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, he has made it very difficult to win the Stanley Cup by only playing well at home.

If this streak continues, Luongo will be lights out on Wednesday night and Vancouver will attain their first ever Stanley Cup, but if this streak is simply just a weird coincidence and Luongo plays bad again, Boston will be hoisting the Cup.
