strong pitching and clutch hitting give yanks 3rd straight win

Bartolo Colon pitched 7 innings giving up 3 runs while striking out 7 and walking none. The yanks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when Jorge Posado hit a two out two run double off of Tigers starter Justin Verlander. In the second inning Robinson Cano's replacement Eduardo Nunez doubled home Brett Gardner to give the yanks a 3-0 lead. The lead would not stand though as Colon gave up 2 solo home runs to Alex Avila who did the bulk of the damage off of Colon. Joba Chamberlain got the win (2-0) and pitched a scoreless 8th inning keeping the game tied when Nick Swisher came through in the 9th inning with an rbi single to give the yanks a 4-3 lead they added one more when Jose Valverde threw a wild pitch scoring Alex Rodriguez from 3rd. Mariano Rivera came on to finish the job in the 9th pitching a perfect inning as the yanks picked up the 5-3 victory to improve there record to 17-9 on the year.

Tonight the yankees send out there ace C.C. Sabathia (2-1) against Brad Penny (1-3) game time set for 7:05 at Comerica Park.
