Rangers' offense muted, Lewis Ks 11

It didn't feel like Colby Lewis struck out 11 batters (more like four).

It didn't feel like the Mariners only had three runs (more like 13).

The game just never felt good tonight, even though I kept hoping.  We have yet to see the Rangers come back from a deficit late in the game.  I can't wait til they learn how to do that because this roadtrip was depressing.

Let me reiterate -- Lewis did just about everything he could.  He only gave up three runs, and he committed an error early in the game.  But he held the Mariners down, waiting for his team to get the bats going.  They never did.  One former Ranger had his bat going this series.  Justin Smoak had three hits tonight (including a solo home run), and he was 7 for 12 in the series.  I'll always wish that kid well, but I wish he wouldn't be so good AGAINST the Rangers.  Eh.  I guess it is what it is.

The Rangers only managed one run on a half-dozen hits.  Elvis Andrus has an 11-game hitting streak, and he stole his ninth base (out of nine attempts) tonight.  He's on a tear, and I hope it's contagious. I don't know what the deal is, but this lack of runs is really depressing.  And I really don't understand what Ron Washington was thinking when he pinch hit Chris Davis for Mike Napoli in the 9th.  I adore Davis, and I know Napoli has trouble against RHPs, but that still didn't make sense.

KISS: I'll give it to Colby.  It was good to see him get it together after a rough start.  Hopefully that can continue.

MISS: Adrian Beltre.  He was hitless and left five runners on base.  In the 8th inning, he was up with two on.  He wanted a hit so bad that he pressed and ended up hitting a little dribbler for the third out. Rally = killed.

Rangers :: 1 R, 6 H, 1 E, 9 LOB

Mariners :: 3 R, 8 H, 13 LOB

My boys return from this West Coast swing with just two wins out of seven attempts. They're now 17-15 and out of first place.  Ugh. Ah well ... back to Arlington for a home stand that includes the Yankees, A's and Angels.  Whew.  Hang onto your butts, Rangers fans.

Friday's match-up

@ 7:05 p.m. CST

Matt Harrison (3-3, 4.59 ERA) vs. Ivan Nova (2-2, 5.14 ERA)
