Michael Bradley Struggling to See Time at Aston Villa

With the English Premier League coming to a close in just a few weeks, most mid table teams are wrapping up their seasons, and looking forward to next year.

The same goes for Aston Villa, who sit on 41 points and in 13th place in the Barclay’s Premier League. With the threat of relegation looking very slim at the moment, but European competition also looking bleak, Aston Villa is hoping to finish the season strong, and maybe find a place in the top half of the table at seasons end.

Which brings me to my next point. Will Michael Bradley get off the bench and see any playing time in Villa’s last three games?

Bradley has made only two appearances for Aston Villa since arriving in January, and has seen very minimal playing time. His lone league appearance came in early February, when he featured as a substitute against Blackpool in a 1-1 draw. He played only 17 minutes in that game. His only start came in an FA Cup match against Manchester City, which Villa ended up losing 3-0. He played 71 minutes that game.

Which brings me to my next point. 88 minutes of playing time in 4 months! Not exactly what Bradley was looking for when he made his loan move from German side Borussia Monchengladbach.

I was hoping for a better turn-out for Bradley, who is one of the first choice midfielders for the US National Team. He’ll still make the Gold Cup roster this summer of course, but sitting on the bench all this time won’t do anyone any good.

Granted there are a boatload of midfielders at Aston Villa right now, and it takes time for a player to adapt to English football, so I guess we can’t blame Bradley too much. I wonder if Villa will sign him for next year, or look at this loan move as a waste of time.

Aston Villa end the season with matches at home against Wigan and Liverpool, and away at Arsenal. Hopefully we can see Bradley make an appearance against either Liverpool or Arsenal, and see what he does against some top tier talent. If not, Bradley could be searching for a new team in the off season.
