Honda SuperClasico Takes Center Stage in MLS Game of the Week
The rivalry between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy will be renewed this Saturday night at the Home Depot Center, as both teams square off in the MLS Game of the Week. The derby will be aired live on ESPN2 at 10:00 PM Eastern, 7:00 PM Pacific.
Now the saying goes that it’s not much of a rivalry when one team wins all the time, and that certainly is the case when it comes to the Honda SuperClasico. LA leads the all-time series 12-3-6, and Chivas haven’t beaten the Galaxy since 2007.
The Galaxy are atop of the league with 20 points from 12 games, while Chivas USA sit mid table in 12th place, with 12 points from 9 games.
The league leading Galaxy head into the game coming off of a 4-1 win against lowly Sporting Kansas City. Landon Donovan continued his hot scoring form, adding two more goals to his league high tally of 7. Juan Pablo Angel and David Beckham added second half goals to make sure all the stars got a piece of the scoring action.
Chivas USA are coming off of an impressive 3-2 win at New York this past Sunday, powered by a Justin Braun hat-trick. The three goals were Braun’s first goals of the season, and it was also his first ever hat-trick in MLS. The game marked the first time the Red Bulls had given up more than two goals in a game all season, which says a lot about the game Braun had.

With LA playing at a high level as of late, and with no need of extra motivation in a derby match, I’ll predict a 3-1 win for the Galaxy. Chivas USA gets a goal because they managed to put up 3 against the Red Bulls last week. Donovan scores atleast one more goal to keep him in the league lead. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the game ends up in a draw.
