Wilson Ks nine, Rangers get back in the win column

A one-run loss in Yankee Stadium was hardly a happy ending to the Rangers' first roadtrip of the year.  It was the first game I got to see this year, and it wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for.  Thankfully, my boys gave me something better tonight.

The Rangers arrived back at home to face the Angels, who had a five-game winning streak going.  Somehow, while I was preoccupied with how my boys were doing, the Angels had pulled into a tie with the Rangers for the division lead.  How was I so unaware?  C.J. Wilson took the mound tonight against Ervin Santana, and from the very start, C.J. was sharp.  He peppered in some drama, allowing a few baserunners, but held the Halos to one run over seven innings while striking out a season-high nine.

He got a little help from the Rangers bats, namely Mitch Moreland and Adrian Beltre, who each drove in three runs.  Beltre hit his three-run home run during the 5th inning, closing out Santana's night before he could record an out in that frame.  Moreland hit his own long ball a few innings later to tack on one more run for the home team.

Chris Davis saw his first game action since being called up a week ago to replace Josh Hamilton.  Predictably, he didn't fare very well at the plate -- 0 for 4 with three Ks.  I don't blame some for being impatient with Davis, but I still believe he will come around.  If believing in him is wrong, I don't want to be right.

KISS: Wilson.  That's what I tuned in to see.  Nine strikeouts.  Hot.

MISS:  Davis.  He might be down, but I'm not out on him.

FINAL SCORE

Angels :: 1 R, 10 H, 1 E, 18 LOB

Rangers :: 7 R, 14 H, 13 LOB

Tuesday's match-up

vs. LAA, 7:05 p.m. CST

Colby Lewis (1-1, 5.25 ERA) vs. Matt Palmer (0-0, 7.71 ERA)

MINOR NOTES

-- Mark Lowe was optioned to AAA when the Rangers activated Colby Lewis.  I hope Lowe can get things turned around.

-- Poor Eric Hurley can't catch a break.  He took a liner off the head tonight in New Orleans.  He walked off the field, and reports indicate he's fine, but, wow.
