MTR NHL BREAKING Playoff News: Flyers Change Goalies (Again) for Sabers Game 3
The Philadelphia Flyers Head Coach Peter Laviolette announced that the Flyers 3rd string goalie Michael Leighton will be on the bench for tonight’s Game 3 playoff matchup. Veteran goalie Brian Boucher will get the start between the pipes.
The Flyers pulled rookie sensation goalie Sergei Bobrovsky in the 1st period of Game 2 after he let up 3 goals on 7 shots in the first 15 minutes of play. Leighton was a hero for the Flyers last year as they made their run to the Stanley Cup as he filled in for the then injured Brian Boucher. There was no indication that injury had anything to do with Bobrovsky not dressing for tonight’s game. It may have more to do with his 3.38GAA in the playoffs.
This is a big risk for the Flyers as they need a win in Buffalo to take a lead in the series. Leighton has not played a meaningful game in months for the Flyers and if he is put into service could be a big question mark between the pipes.
This uncertainty in goal for the Flyers makes the underdog 7th seed Sabers a possible first round upset in the making.
