Ryan Miler is "day-to-day"
Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller sat out practice today and is listed as "day-to-day" with an unidentified upper body injury. He was hit with a slapshot in what looked to be the shoulder or maybe collarbone-area in last Tuesday's game against Toronto.
With Miller temporarily absent, it seems rookie goalie Jhonas Enroth will take over. Enroth has been called upon to play sparingly this season, but has showed promise, recording a 2.45 GAA and getting his first shutout in a huge game Wednesday against the Rangers.
Ingterestingly, coach Lindy Ruff has had Patrick Lalime on the team all year, but Lalime hasn't played in a game since January and saw very little action before then. It seems whenever Miller needs a night off, they call up Enroth.
I don't expect Miller to miss many more games, but if he does it will be interesting to see if Lalime ever get called upon to play. There's no evidence that he is upset with his deminished role on the team, but I'd like to see how the team plays with him in net, and how he responds.
I think this team has been playing good defensive hockey lately, which they demonstrated in the Rangers game when Enroth only faed 23 shots. But of course, Miller is a huge part of this team's success. He's the won't repeat as Vezina winner, but opposing teams know that he can play at that caliber and the Sabres will need him to be back come playoff time.
