Indians have best start since the 20th century

Prince said "We're going to party like it is 1999."

The Cleveland Indians, now 12-4 are having their best start since 1999. That team was also 12-4 and went on to a 97-65 record only to be beaten by the Red Sox in the ALDS and Pedro Martinez. We finished April 1999 with a 16-6 record.

The Indians beat the Royals last night. The Royals are no slouch themselves at 10-6. How did we do it?

1. We took the lead first. Carlos Santana hit a double to knock in Shin-soo Choo who singled and stole second base to put himself in scoring position. When the Indians score 1st, they are 12-0 so far in this young season.

2. The bullpen continued its dominance. After Carrasco, the starter left the game, no runs were surrendered and no hits were surrended either. The only two base runners reached base via the walk. So far this season in the 12 wins, the Indians' bullpen has a 0.50 ERA

3. The Indians come through in the clutch. With the game on the line and images of Anaheim all over again, Shelley Duncan came off the bench to score Carlos Santana who walked to start the 10th inning. The Indians added on another 3 runs. This helped the Indians win in extra innings.

With games like these, the Indians are going to be something special, something that hopefully is better than 1999. Clevelanders, like me, can only hope!
