Dempsey Back To Scoring Ways As Fulham Beat Bolton 3-0

Clint Dempsey scored 2 goals, and Brede Hangeland added a third in the 65th minute to give Fulham a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers yesterday at Craven Cottage. The win moves Fulham into the top half of the Barclay’s Premier League table in ninth place, while Bolton stay put on 46 points and in eighth place.

Dempsey’s first goal in the fifteenth minute was nothing short of stunning, as he hit a volley off a failed corner attempt by Bolton. The ball flew into the top of the net, leaving Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen no chance.

Then after the start of the second half, Dempsey struck again in the 48th minute off a nice backheel assist from Eidur Gudjonhsen, which started from a Simon Davies cross. The American international’s second goal of the game was another great one, showing poise and skill in front of a crowded Bolton goal.

The game was then sealed in the 65th minute, when defender Brede Hangeland knocked in a header from a Danny Murphy free kick.

It was a great showing from Fulham, with Dempsey leading the attack in almost everyway. It was nice to see Dempsey get back on the scoring track, after he got off to such a great start to the season. His scoring had slowed down over the past couple of months, but he showed again yesterday why he might be one of the most underrated players in the English Premier League.

Both of Dempsey’s goals also move him into the top ten in scoring with 12 goals this season in the league. His 12 goals in league play are equal to that of Didier Drogba of Chelsea, and Javier Hernandez of Manchester United. Again, very nice to see Dempsey mentioned with some of the best players in Europe.

Bob Bradley should take note of Dempsey’s scoring run this season. With the US team lacking some striking ability, maybe he should think of playing Dempsey up top as a striker, rather than having him outside on the wing.
