AJ Burnett Finished April with a 4-1 Record

Burnett At the beginning of Spring Training, Yankee fans had little to no faith in AJ Burnett as their second starter. The tables have certainly turned since then. There was more confidence in Phil Hughes as the 2nd starter, but now he is non the disabled list after terrible outings. Burnett has been stellar with good run support.

One of the people that can be pointed to as the source of Burnett's sucess could by catcher Russell Martin. Burnett had issues with Jore Posada as his personal catcher last year, but this year with the new face behind the plate, the two have clicked well especially in the Yankees 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Martin was calling for the curveball early on and kept it up for most of the game. Burnett admitted that he didn't feel comfortable, but trusted his catcher. He shook off Martin a few times and selected to go to his fastball. Toronto pounced on the opportunites that they had and tackled on their runs.

After talking to Martin and thinking about his performance, Burnett admitted that he was focusing more on the way in whoch he was delivering the ball than just going with the flow. This may just be a small bump in the road for Burnett and Martin. If they keep things up, Burnett could duplicate a season like his first with the Yankees or even better.

Yankees Notes

-Alex Rodriguez was given the day of rest against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

-Jorge Posada is in another slump. The pattern has been followed all season and the only time he seems to get hits is when he homers. It will be interesting to see how much playing time Eric Chavez can get at designated hitter as a result of the slump. Chavez has been red hot and clutch in the first month of the season for the Yankees.

-Francisco Cervelli has been activated from the disabled list and will most likely catch behind the plate on Sunday for the Yankees.

- Yankee Stadium will be the site of free La Roche-Posay skin cancer screening for all fans. Screenings will run from from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the main level behind home plate. As an added bonus, be one of the first fans to get into Yankee Stadium and recieve free sunscreen!
