Yanks use home runs and strong pitching to beat the Tigers

C.C. Sabathia pitched 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs while striking out 7 and walking 2 while Mark Teixiera and Curtis Granderson hit home runs as the Yanks beat the Tigers 6-3 at the stadium. The Tigers scored the first run in the second inning when Miguel Cabrera led the second off with a single, Victor Martinez than followed with a sharp single off the glove of Derek Jeter, Ryan Rayburn than walked to load the bases, Johnny Peralta than hit a sac fly driving in Cabrera all against C.C. Sabathia. The game remained 1-0 Tigers until the bottom of the third inning when newly aquired catcher Russel Martin led off the inning with a single, Brett Gardner than sacrificed him over with a bunt,  Derek Jeter than walked leading to the three run  home run by Mark Teixiera which gave the Yanks a 3-1 lead all off of Justin Verlander. In the top of the fourth inning the Tigers scored a run when brandon Inge singled and knocked in Cabrera. The Tigers tied the game in the fifth inning when Cabrera hit a sac fly driving in former yankee Austin Jackson. The game remained tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Curtis Granderson led off the inning with a solo home run off of former yankee Phil Coke, the yanks would score another run in the inning when Jeter hit a sac fly scoring Russell Martin.

The yanks bullpen faced 9 batters and retired all 9 with 3 strikeouts. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless 7th inning while Soriano pitched a scoreless 8th inning and than Rivera nailed down the 9th inning to secure the 6-3 victory. The two teams will take the day off tomorrow and the three game series will resume on saturday at 4:05 the probable pitching match up will be A.J. Burnett against Brad Penny.
