Sabres win in OT... again
This Buffalo Sabres team has been doing the improbable by going 4-1-1 in their last six to climb into seventh place in the East conference, and all on the road.
Instead of continuing to play .500 hockey and cling onto the hope of sneaking into the playoffs in the last week of the season, these Sabres have gotten red-hot at exactly the right time.
The latest spectacular victory came tonight at Boston where the Sabres came back from a defecit twice and finished the job in overtime with a SportsCenter top-play-worthy play by Brad Boyes and Nathan Gerbe.
Everything seems to be going right for the Sabres right now:
The new owner Terry Pegula insired the team and fans alike and has been traveling with the team to watch all the games and give locker room pep talks.
Trade deadline pickup Brad Boyes has contributed to the offense with five points in his first five games.
Young players like Drew Stafford and Andrej Sekera have been on fire and seem to be reaching their full potential.
Ryan Miller has been coming up big in clutch situations, as he always does.
Thomas Vanek continues to be a catalyst for the offense in a number of ways.
Steve Montador has stepped up to fill the void left by Toni Lydman in terms of defensive play.
Rob Niedermayer tallied two goals after snapping his season-long drought.
The list goes on and on (you know the expression: winning fixes everything, right?)
My point: they are far from a polished Stanley Cup conteneder at this point, but watch out for the Buffalo Sabres, because right now they are a force to be reckoned with.
