CNN war correspondent blasts Fox News
"You know, when you come to somewhere like Libya, you expect lies and deceit from the dictatorship here, you don't expect it from the other journalists," said CNN correspondent Nic Robertson. Robertson was responding to allegations made by Fox News that he and other journalists were used as human shields by pro-Gadhafi forces in order to prevent an attack by the allies.
Here is a video of the allegations:
Robertson was shown on CNN’s The Situation Room to address the rumors, which he shot down harshly, and minced no words. Robertson angrily bashed Fox News’ allegations, as well as calling them “hypocrites” and “liars.”
Here is a video showing Robertson’s rebuttal on The Situation Room:
Nic Robertson is one of the most respected journalists in the world, and he is risking his life overseas to cover the war in Libya. He has enough to deal with just doing his job and surviving in a war zone, and now Robertson must protect the reputation of himself and other journalists. Sure, sources can be wrong, and the wrong information could be reported, but Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin is sticking buy her story.
If Fox News can’t prove their allegations, or don’t retract their report, they'll have lost a large amount of credibility, something they can ill-afford to lose, as their reputation is already sordid at best.
In fact, I'll go as far as to say it's the last straw for Fox News being taken seriously as a news source. I was once a defender of Fox News. I believed it provided an outlet for the right wing media, which is mostly dominated by the left. However, spreading lies is the cardinal sin of journalism, and they have commited it and then some over the years.
