He threw 45 pitches 30 of them were strikes he struckout Ryan Howard for his only strikeout. A.J. went 10-15 last season but so far in two spring starts he has pitched 5 innings allowing 0 earned runs and only 2 hits. The offense was provided by Eduardo Nunez who hit a 3 run homerun in the second inning and Curtis Granderson who hit a two run homerun in the third inning all off of Phillies starter Roy Oswalt. The Yanks pitching had a perfect game until two outs in the 6th inning when Wilson Valdez hit a homerun to break the shutout and the perfect game bid.

In the night game against the O's Sergio Mitre pitched 3 scoreless innings in his first start of the spring. Mitre allowed 3 hits while striking out three on 47 pitches. The offense was silent in the second game as the final was 0-0 in the game.
