Its A Brand New Day At MSG!

Images It's a new day at Madison Square Garden. No longer are Knick fans sitting in darkness, waiting on a pardon from the Governor to suspend this sentence of mediocrity. Yesterday Knickerbocker nation received a reprieve, symbolic of a ray of hope, and  brighter days ahead for this franchise.

After months of "Melo-Drama", Carmelo Anthony has embraced the challenge of greatness and joins the New York Knicks. The Knicks traded Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofy Mozgov, and two future draft picks for Anthony and Chauncy Billups. Additional pieces include Renaldo Blackman and Shelden Williams. The 3 way trade also landed the Knicks Corey Brewer via the Minnesota Timberwolves, who I think will have an major impact on the team.

At a glance, it looks like the Knicks were fleeced. Essentially, the deal boils down to a point guard swap,  Galilinari and Mosgov for Carmelo, and 2 future draft picks.  Furthermore, Wilson Chandler is a restricted Free Agent that the Knicks have no intention on resigning .  Moreover, his fear of the modified CBA made free agency an unattractive option. ´╗┐Carmelo did not want to leave any paper on the table. Can ya blame him?

There's an old saying, "scared money don't make any money"...and in this case the Knicks had to give up some decent players to acquire a superstar. Key Questions: Were the Knicks going to win a title with these players? Were the Knicks playing lights out basketball with these players over the past month?  Are the Knicks a better team today than yesterday?  Are the Knicks sexier to future Free Agents?  If you answered these questions'll understand why the Knicks made the damn deal.

Hey, the Knicks are relevant again. And although I'm scared that Isaiah's fingerprints were all over this screenplay, his Machiavellian impact on James Dolan  did help to expedite the deal. The fallout  is that Donnie Walsh  may very well be out the door, so heaven help us.

Next up, can the Knicks now acquire a coach that emphasizes defense?  Oh...that something to ponder on another day.
