Cleveland Cavaliers To Sign Free Agent G/F Alonzo Gee

A day after releasing forward Jawad Williams and assigning Samardo Samuels to the D-League the Cavaliers are expected to sign free agent guard Alonzo Gee, per a report from Jason Lloyd of the Akron-Beacon Journal.

Gee played in 11 games for the Wizards and 5 games for the Spurs this season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9 minutes.

He signed two 10-day contracts with Washington last season before the Spurs inked him to a contract for the rest of the regular season. In his first career start he scored 19 points and knocked down a couple of three-pointers as well.

Byron Scott likes Gee's athleticism and believes his toughness can be an attribute going forward. With Williams out, Samuels in the D-League and Joey Graham out with a quad injury, there are plenty of minutes available for second-unit guys.

Gee is not expected to play against Orlando tonight or at Charlotte tomorrow - the coaching staff wants him to get some practice in. He'll more than likely be available to play Saturday against Chicago, though how many minutes he'll actually see remains to be seen.

His contract is non-guaranteed so the team still has flexibility should they make a move via or trade or signing another free agent.
