Oakland Raiders: Walking the plank
As the players are culled from the Raiders' 53 man roster, some cuts are made for the good of the team.
Some names that drop, aren't too surprising...Todd Watkins, who failed to catch a potential game-winning TD, was let go. Former Center, Offensive Lineman Chris Morris is gone as well.
Manase Tonga, who scored a Touchdown Thursday was cut, but odds are good he's going to the Practice squad and possibly up to the team in a couple weeks.
Brandon Ross and Joey Thomas both were non-factors this offseason, along with others.
The complete list, that is circulating looks like this:
Released WR Shaun Bodiford, S Jerome Boyd, QB Colt Brennan, DL Chris
Cooper, DE Alex Daniels, DE Greyson Gunheim, DT Kellen Heard, DT William
Joseph, FB Luke Lawton, OL Chris Morris, LB David Nixon, LB Slade Norris, TE John Owens, OL Alex Parsons, CB Joe Porter, DE Jay Richardson, OL Brandon Rodd, CB Joey Thomas, FB Manase Tonga and WR Todd Watkins
Now while it is complete, two things can still happen. The Raiders may make a move to pull down another WR. T.J., also known as Who's your Mama was released from the Seahawks and is rumored to be a budgetary move. If this is the case, he could provide Oakland with a good set of hands.
Likewise, injuries will cause some jobs to be lost as the season nears....when Michael Bush returns to the club at full power, expect either Rock Cartwright or MIchael Bennett to join the disposed.
Lastly, is the Practice Squad. Shaun Bodiford, Tonga, Slade Norris and Jerome Boyd could make it....but again, Tom Cable is working the club into a better team...looks like he did a good job in culling the deadweight already.
