Davidson defensive end Jabrian Niles chooses Auburn

Rumor has it that Jabrian Niles wasn't going to make his intent to be an Auburn Tiger official just yet, but either way, he's now pledged to be an Auburn Tiger. That brings Auburn's 2011 total to eight commitments.

Niles high school coach confirmed with Al.com that Niles was indeed planning to commit to Gene Chizik and the Auburn program, and soon thereafter, it was official.Who is Jabrian Niles you may ask? Possibly the steal of the 2011 class so far.

Just looking at his Rivals profile doesn't tell the whole story on Niles. He may be a 3-star, and we all know rankings don't always matter, but Niles isn't regarded a mid-level prospect. At least Auburn, Alabama, Texas Tech, Florida, Florida State, Southern Cal and Ole Miss didn't think so. He had offers on the table from each and every one of them.

Niles was in Auburn for the Senior Mini Camp this weekend, and after spending time on campus, and with defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, he knew the Plains was where he wanted to be.Standing at 6-foot-2, 265 pounds, Niles is an athlete with great size and 4.7 speed.

A lot of defensive linemen are limited in what they can do, but Niles is the whole package, in part to being a former quarterback.

An easy comparison to draw with Jabrian is with Quentin Groves, who was of similar stature and had an uncanny amount of athleticism for a defensive end.

He racked up eight sacks and 72 tackles for 6a Davidson High in Mobile, Al, where current Auburn safety Mike McNeil also played high school ball.

Niles has been an Auburn fan for a long time, and Gene Chizik has no doubt been a Jabrian Niles fan for a long time, you just probably didn't hear about it. Coach Rocker and Luper were the main recruiters in pursuit of Giles, and it appears they've gotten another big in-state commitment on board.
